Firefox 3 is a terrific web browser. The most useful new feature to me has got to be the Smart Location Bar.
It’s like a typical Address Bar on steroids. I can type in a word or part of a word and be greeted not only with URLs containing the text in question, but also links to sites in my history or bookmarks that have that text in the title. Typing “NBA” showed me two articles about the NBA referee scandal that I had read from Fox News.
Sometimes, it’s the simple things.

Just a few quick thoughts on Monday’s concert.
What a show! The band was on fire. Going into this tour, I wasn’t sure what to expect with the departure of long-term keyboardist Butch Taylor. The addition of guitarist extraordinaire Tim Reynolds certainly softened the blow. Wow. Drummer Carter Beauford, as always, was on the top of his game. Guest saxophonist Jeff Coffin was amazing filling in for the injured Leroi Moore.
They played many favorites, including Seek Up, Granny, Bartender, Cornbread, Tripping Billies, Too Much and Ants Marching.
It was an absolutely fantastic show from top to bottom. Even if you are not a huge fan of their work, if you love live music (or just good music), you owe it to yourself to check them out.

Heading to the Dave Matthews Band show in Atlanta tonight. We’ve seen them there the last two years and they have NOT disappointed.
Can’t wait!

You’ve got to be kidding me.

Well, schools all over the country are eliminating competitive games (such as tag) from recess both for “safety” and to prevent damaging the delicate self-esteem of our children – not to mention the elimination of the honor roll and other constructions that pit students against one another.
It’s a wonder anyone ever made it through school. How did our fragile little minds ever survive?

Sometimes, a film just speaks to you. It moves you in ways you didn’t think a movie could move you.
Yesterday, it was:

I enjoy my job very much, but this movie perfectly summarizes various aspects of cubicle life.
Oh, and this is seriously one of the best comedic movie scenes ever:

This site may be up, down or have no css for the next couple days. Basically, when the domain was renewed, the hosting was renewed (and apparently transferred to my zackrippy.NET account, which was always just a parked redirect. They are in the process of fixing it, but it could take a day or two apparently.
What fun. If you check back and see parked page, ugly page or no page, things will be back to normal…eventually.

Is there a more fun movie than The Goonies?
If your answer is anything other than NO, then you fail epically.
As a kid, could there be anything cooler than finding a treasure map, fighting bad guys and saving your neighborhood? Well, that’s The Goonies. In a word? Awesome. I watched it all the way through recently for the first time in years.
You should definitely sit back, remember what it was like to be a kid, and check it out. You won’t regret it.
Until then, kill some time with these Youtube clips:
Original Theatrical Trailer
Chunk’s Confession
The Truffle Shuffle
Octopus Deleted Scene
Snack Shop Deleted Scene (horrible quality)
Data Deleted Scene (horrible quality)
Also, if you ever want to create your own treasure map, it’s actually quite simple.
My mom made many with us when we were kids.
First of all, you need some beige copy paper. Draw your map (lots of examples here). Pour a thin level of plain vinegar into a baking pan. Lay the map in the vinegar and let it soak in for a few minutes. Stick it in the oven on broil. Wait for the vinegar to evaporate. You should see the map start to look aged, crinkled, etc. Finally, take it out of the oven and burn/singe the edges with a match or liter. That’s it. You have a treasure map! Hours of fun are guaranteed.**
**I am not responsible if you burn your house down, burn yourself or end up with a map that is lame.

Today being April Fools Day, the web is crawling with clever and not-so-clever gags.
The best I’ve seen?
YouTube.
If you clicked on any of the “Featured Videos” on their homepage today, you were redirected to a Rickroll.
For those who haven’t “had the pleasure,” a rickroll is when someone posts a supposedly relevant and/or informative link online, but it is actually just a link to Rick Astley’s amazing “Never Gonna Give You Up” video.
YouTube = winner.
More info.

Most people familiar with BitTorrent assume that its primary appeal is to those who illegally share music, movies and other copyrighted works. While I have no doubt that is true, here is a great example of an enterprising IT staff harnessing BitTorrent for productive purposes.
INHOLLAND University used BitTorrent to distribute 3.5GB of patches to 6,500 workstations. That is over 22TB of data. It used to take them four days and over twenty-four servers to push out that much information. With BitTorrent? It took four hours and four servers.
That’s what I call thinking outside the box!
