While in Florida, I had the opportunity to catch Superman Returns in IMAX 3D. It was a terrific movie experience. The theater was amazing. There were no previous preceding the main event. The film started with the “classic” flying Main Titles set to John Williams‘ iconic Superman Main Theme and we were off. There were four different 3D scenes, totaling approximately 17 minutes. They were: the flashback, the plane scene, part of the action on Luthor’s yacht and the closing Earth flyover. Those sequences translated very well into 3D and it was not distracting and did not feel at all like a cheap gimmick. Additionally, seeing Superman Returns for a second time was a completely different experience. The first time, I think I was nitpicking and trying to find things wrong with it since I grew up on the previous series of films, though I ended up liking “Returns” very much initially. However, this time around, I was completely immerse in the story and the action on screen and love virtually every minute. I, of course, recommend Superman Returns, and if you have the opportunity to experience it at an IMAX venue, you just have to check it out!
