Last Sunday, en route to our cruise departure from Port Canaveral, we stopped over in Lakeland. My younger brother Jordan attends school at Southeastern and just started leading worship at Victory Church @ Lakeside Village, a satellite of Victory Church in Lakeland. They meet in a movie theater and really have their act together. Guests are greeted by friendly faces and tables full or assorted juices, coffee and donuts. There are separate theaters configured for various children’s ministries. They utilize the theater’s digital signs over each individual auditorium to guide you to the correct place. The main auditorium is spacious and elegant and houses the two Sunday morning services. The church utilizes the theater’s complete sound system for the services’ audio. Jordan called me a few days before our trip and told me that his drummer was on vacation and that the backup had a family emergency and had to leave town. So, since I was there, I ended up playing with him and his band Sunday morning. The rest of the band was great. He found his bass player on MySpace (go figure) and his keyboard player is just out of this world incredible. The electric guitar guy was out of town as well, so the band consisted of Jordan on acoustic, me on drums and his keys and bass players. It was an excellent service and I had a blast playing with those guys…and Jordan even did my favorite song ever. (sarcasm) Seriously, though, it was great. ![]()
The church rocked though and if you are ever in the Lakeland, FL vicinity, you should definitely pay them a visit!
