I am not someone who necessarily enjoys getting up especially early in the morning. I normally work a fixed, eight hour shift from 7:00 to 3:00. I usually get up around 5:30. That is a little early, but getting off at 3:00 is great, so i don’t mind at all.
Due to an odd set of circumstances, I am temporarily working different hours - from 5:00 AM until 1:00 PM. I am getting up at 4:00 in order to get to work on time. 4:00 AM!! If 5:30 is a little early to me, then you can imagine how much I LOVE getting up at 4:00.
However, I’m trying to see the glass as half full and there are some definite benefits. First of all, I am off at 1:00. That is awesome. I have plenty of time to get things done and be home with the family in the afternoon. Secondly, it is forcing me to make a conscious effort to get enough sleep - something this notorious late-nighter has never been known to do. Finally, the quietness and calm of such an early hour really allows me to focus before the “real” day begins. It has made it easier to do daily devotions. Also, when I get to work, I have a couple good hours before things get busy in which I can really focus (without interruption) on individual projects I am trying to accomplish. In fact, those first two hours of the work day may actually be my most productive.
So, once I get used to actually getting out of bed at that hour, this schedule change may actually end up being a good thing.

I’ve just been thinking about shifting my work schedule to earlier hours. I’m not a morning person either, but I can see the benefits of the morning quiet. I usually get to the office about 10a and leave about 6:30 or 7p. But there is never a quiet moment in the day. Tough when projects are nearing deadlines…
Good thoughts man. If you can convert, perhaps there is hope for me yet. As it stands, it’s 2:08 a.m. now. So I probably won’t give it a shot “tomorrow” morning.
