As you can see, my last post was exactly one week ago. Basically, I took a week offline. I was off of work for several days and decided to completely unplug. It could not have come at a better time. Wednesday and Thursday, I just hung around the house with the family. Friday, Taylor went to Florida with my mom for the weekend. He returns today. It was his first trip out-of-town without Marie or me. The house has been oddly silent without him around and I am very ready for him to come home. However, we have been able to get a lot of things done the past few days and we were able to spend a little time with some friends, which was great. It was a very refreshing week.
Things had been crazy recently. Between an unexpected work trip to Hawaii, setting up a wireless network for our church from the ground up and dealing with two computer “crises” for other people, things have been insanely busy. I needed a break.
So, for one week (well, after Tuesday evening), I went offline as much as possible. No podcasts. No internet. No email. No digg. No blog. With only two quick exceptions (one, an “urgent” PowerPoint request from my dad and the other helping a friend transfer some files from a dying PC), I disappeared from the internet. It was great. Don’t misunderstand me: I love technology and especially the internet. Email, forums and blogs are daily rituals for me. Still, it is amazing the sense of calm you get when you step back from breakneck pace of online life for a time.
Anyways, I’m back now….catching up on various blogs and digging old stories I’ve missed. Speaking of blogs, congrats to David Russell on a year of great blogging.
Edit: Oops. I accidentally marked this post as Private. That’s why it disappeared. Sorry about that!

Thanks, Zack. Looking forward to your year.
A week with no ones and zeros. Wow. That sounds like a fantastic idea.

It was a great week, David. I really didn’t plan it. It just kinda happened and after a couple days, I decided to stay off until I came back to work today. I wasn’t completely unplugged the whole time. I mean, there was normal running sermon notes for my dad on Sunday and all, but 95% offline.

Shaun:
No problem, man. Glad it all worked out! Bring it tomorrow night and we’ll try to get it resuscitated.
