OK, this is ridiculous. Apple has released firmware version 1.1.1 for iPod nanos and 5th-generation iPods. This new update is in response to the laughably frivolous lawsuit brought by people who sued Apple claiming iPods caused hearing damage when played at full volume.
Well, no kidding, Einstein. So will my Onkyo receiver at home. So will the headphones attached to my PC speaker at work.
The new firware update allows an iPod-owner to configure a maximum volume for the device. It also allows you to password-protect the maximum audio setting. Parental control for volume.
Brilliant. I am so glad that Apple programmers were able to waste spend valuable time and effort coming up with a way so that some idiot could password-protect his volume control or protect himself from Apple’s evil plan to deafen the general population.
I hate these kinds of lawsuits. Come on, people. Grow up and take just the slightest bit of responsibility for yourself. What next? Sue your automobile manufacturer because you got a speeding ticket? I mean, your car can exceed the legal speed limits. Shouldn’t it have a speed-limiting setting so you don’t accidentally break the law? This iPod lawsuit is just as absurd.
