Think Secret is reporting that Apple is planning to release a “new” video version of its portable multimedia powerhouse – what the site calls the “true” video iPod. This new release has allegedly been in development since long before the current 5G model was released last year. The new iPod will have a 3.5-inch diagonal display that will take up the entire front of the device. Instead of the traditional click wheel that graces the face of the current iPods, the new model will feature a digital click wheel that appears when a finger brushes the touch-sensitive front panel.
This new iPod (6G?) will not have wireless capability and will connect to televisions using the same method as the current model.
According to Think Secret, the 5g video iPod currently on the market is merely “a souped up 4G iPod with video capabilities.” The new version is supposedly the video iPod.
The speculated release date is April 1, the 30th anniversary of the founding of Apple, though there is no solid information on this.
All information in this entry should be considered rumor for now, but it sounds highly plausible to me. After getting a 5G 60 GB model for Christmas, I have to say that the iPod is truly one of the best gifts I have ever received. I am never without it. I will have more on my personal iPod experience in a future post. I am looking forward to seeing what Apple has in store for the iPod.
